Overview: The TomTom GO 920T can be used in your car or used as a handheld navigation unit. Maps of the United States, Guam, Canada and Europe are installed on the unit's built-in 4GB flash memory. The unit also features an external TMC receiver/antenna. A home dock with an attached USB cable is included in case you need to update your maps in the future. The GO 920T also comes with a wireless remote control, car charger, and a suction-cup bracket to give you an easy way to mount the GO 920T in your vehicle.
Slim Portable Design: The TomTom GO 920T is lightweight and slim making it ideal to use in the car or carry around in your hand or coat pocket.
Easy Installation: The GO 920T comes supplied with a cigarette lighter adapter for supplying power to the unit in your vehicle and also comes supplied with an adjustable suction cup mount that can be mounted to the windshield or dash or console using the self-adhesive plastic disc. The unit also feature an integrated GPS antenna so there is no external antenna to mount outside of the vehicle.
4.3" Widescreen: The GO 920T features a 4.3" widescreen, touch-panel LCD display (480 x 272 pixels) with an anti-glare coating for easy viewing and simple operation. The unit's LCD touch-panel display features a light sensor that provides automatic brightness control for day or night driving.
Included Maps: The unit features preloaded maps of the United States, Guam, Canada and Western/Eastern Europe (covering 41 European countries) on its internal 4GB flash memory for worry free navigation.
SD-Card Slot: The GPS unit features an SD-card slot that supports SD-Cards (SD) and Multimedia Cards (MMC) up to 2GB for storing downloaded MP3 music files, JPEG still photos and mapping updates.
Home Dock: The GO 920T's home dock is used for charging the GPS unit when it is not in the car and for connecting the unit to your computer. The home dock features a mini-type-B USB connector on the top for connecting the GO 920T and an attached 41" USB cable with a type-A USB connector for connecting to your PC. To get the most from your TomTom system, you can link it to your PC or Mac, from where you can back up (and restore) your Favorite locations and preferences, load new maps and install new navigation voices. No minimum system requirements are provided.
Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery: Fully charging the internal Li-polymer battery will take approximately 2 hours. A fully charged battery offers approximately 5 hours of operation.
Bluetooth Wireless Remote Control: The TomTom GO920T comes supplied with a Bluetooth wireless remote control for safe and convenient operation. Because the remote communicates to the GO920T via Bluetooth, you can use it anywhere in your vehicle without having to point the remote directly at the GPS receiver. The remote features a cradle with a self-adhesive backing for securing it to your vehicle's dash or console.
Password: You can set a password for the TomTom GO 920T which must be entered every time you start the unit to prevent others from using the device.
GPS Receiver: The TomTom GO 920T features a high sensitivity GPS chipset and 400 MHz/65MB RAM CPU that gives you fast, accurate positioning.
Enhanced Positioning Technology: The TomTom GO 920T's Enhanced Positioning Technology estimates your location automatically when GPS reception is poor such as when you drive between tall buildings. The GO 920T uses positioning sensors to monitor your acceleration and direction and then estimates your current location.
Note: The GO 920T must first receive a GPS signal and calculate your route before using this feature.
Drive View: When the TomTom GO 920T starts, you are shown the Driving View screen, which shows your immediate locations on the current route. The Driving View screen displays your current position; the name of the next major road or road sign information; navigation instructions for the road ahead; the name of the next street to turn on to, information about your trip time, remaining distance and arrival time; GPS signal strength; and Traffic bar. You can tap the screen to zoom in and out of your route.
Note: The Driving View screen is shown in black and white until the GPS unit locates your current position.
Navigation: The 'Navigate to...' menu is the simplest and most useful starting point in most situations. Given your current GPS position, you can use this to navigate to any given address, intersection, favorite location, POI (Point Of Interest), and so on. You can choose from the following options:
- Home: Once your home location is stored in memory, it can be quickly be chosen as a destination.
- Favorite: The locations that you visit frequently can be stored in the Favorite menu. A Favorite can be chosen as a destination without having to enter its address each time.
- Address: This option lets you enter a specific address as a destination. When you end an address, you can choose from five options.
- City Center: sets your destination as the center of a city or town
- Street And House Number: sets an exact address as your destination
- Zip Code: enters a Zip Code as your destination
- Cross Street Or Intersection: sets your destination as the point where two streets meet
- Spoken Address: set your destination by announcing one of the search criteria for Address lookup
- Recent Destination: You can display a list of addresses, Points Of Interest and other destinations that you've used recently.
- Point Of Interest: This option lets you choose from a database of 5 million railway stations, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and so on.
- Point On Map: You can use the map browser to select a destination, scroll around the map, zooming in or out as needed.
- GPS Position: This is a calculated route based on a GPS position.
- Latitude/Longitude: This is a calculated route based on Latitude and Longitude parameters.
- Position of Last Stop: This is a calculated route based on your last stop.
- TomTom Buddy: You can welcome friends and colleagues into your network of "TomTom Buddies". Then if you both wish you can be alerted when a friend is nearby, or you can navigate to where they are.
Text-To-Speech With Speech Recognition: The TomTom GO 920T understands the pronunciation of city and street names allowing you to speak an address into the unit. You can also answer questions asked by the GO 920T while driving, so you can keep your eyes on the road with the combination of text-to-speech and speech recognition technology. The GPS unit also announces directions and street names giving you easier guidance and allowing you to focus better on the road ahead.
Spoken Addresses: Instead of typing addresses, you can enter an address by speaking into the built-in microphone on the GO 920T. Once you say the address, you are shown six addresses that match what you just said. The unit will announce the name at the top of this list for you to confirm and say O.K. If the name at the top of the list is not the address you want then you will say the corresponding numbers of the other addresses in the order they appear on the list (2-6). If the address you want is not on the list then say "Back" or No".
Arrival Time: When you plan a route, the TomTom Go 920T will ask you if you need to arrive at a particular time. The unit can then calculate your arrival time and show you whether or not you will arrive on time.
Re-Calculation: This feature allows the GO 920T to adjust to your new location instantly and provides a new route.
Points Of Interest: The GO 920T gives you access to 5 million Points of Interests including fuel stations, parking, restaurants, cash machines, and lots more.
Favorite Locations: The Favorite menu allows you to store locations that you visit frequently into memory. You can choose a favorite location the same way you choose a destination. The following menu options are available; Home, Address, Recent Destination, Point Of Interest, Point On Map, GPS Position (allows you to store your current location quickly), latitude and longitude, and the location where your TomTom was last used in the car.
View Route: If you already have a route planned, you can explore it in various ways by choosing 'View route'. You can choose from the following options:
- Browse as Text: This option provides a simple list of the junctions involved and the distances (or times, use the 'Options' button to change the numbers shown) between them.
- Browse as Images: Using this option presents each junction in 3D, with your turn instruction clearly marked.
- Browse Map of Route: This option allows to overlay the route onto a map that you can zoom and scroll around.
- Show Route Demo: This feature shows an animation of your route.
- Show Route Summary: This option allows you to display the graphical overview of your route that was shown when it was first calculated.
Route Planning: You can use the GO 920T to plan trips in advance be selecting both your starting point and your destination.
Itinerary Planning: An itinerary is essentially just a list of 'waypoints' and 'destinations'. Your best route is calculated, visiting each in turn (in the exact order you specify).
Find Alternative: Once a route has been planned, you can change it using the 'Find alternative...' menu. You can choose from the following options:
- Calculate Alternative: You can find an alternative route if you don't like the original route.
- Avoid Roadblock: If you spot signs of trouble (such as backed-up traffic or 'Delays ahead' warning signs), you can choose this menu option. You need to estimate whether the blockage extends 100m, 500m, 2000m or 5000m ahead from your current position and then select the appropriate icon.
- Travel via...: Choose 'Travel via...' if you want to make sure the planned route goes past one particular location, perhaps to pick up or drop someone off. The new location is picked in exactly the same way as you would pick a departure point or destination.
- Avoid Part of Route: This menu option allows you to avoid intersections that are known for heavy traffic.
- Recalculate Original: You can return to the original best route.
- Minimize Traffic Delays: Avoid traffic delays using TomTom Traffic information, a TomTom Plus service
Traffic Information: You can obtain traffic information allowing the GO 920T to recalculate routes based on traffic congestion two ways.
- TomTom Traffic: TomTom Traffic is a TomTom service for receiving up-to-date traffic information. TomTom traffic requires a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone and a wireless data connection (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, CDMA). TomTom Traffic uses the most up-to-date information from many local sources. TomTom Traffic retrieves traffic information from TomTom using a wireless data connection on your cell phone. You must establish a Bluetooth connection between your phone and the GO 920T and you must have a wireless data subscription with your mobile network operator and a subscription to TomTom Traffic.
- Traffic Message Channel (TMC): TMC transmits traffic information as a radio signal. TMC is not a TomTom service but is available via the supplied TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver and currently does not require a subscription. The GO 920T can manually or automatically search and tune for radio frequencies that carry RDS-TMC information in your area. Traffic incidents are shown in the Driving View and on the Traffic Bar in the order that they occur along your planned route of the GO 920T. The estimated time for any traffic delay is shown next to the unit's incident symbol on the screen. The distance from your current location to the next Traffic incident on your planned route is shown at the bottom of the Traffic Bar on the GO 920T's LCD screen. Incidents are also shown in the Driving View of the GO 920T so that you can view the precise location of any incident.
Preferences: You can change much of the look and feel of your TomTom system to your own liking by using 'Preferences'. You can adjust the following:
- Map View: You can select from the following Map Views - 3D Map, 2D Map with travel direction at the top, or 2D Map North with the North direction at the top of the map.
- Compass Settings: You can choose from the following Compass Settings - None, One with arrow pointing north, One with arrow showing your heading, or One with arrow pointing to your destination.
- Manage Maps: You can switch between the different maps, download additional maps directly to the TomTom, and delete unnecessary maps (make sure you have a back-up before deleting).
- Manage POIs: You can add, create, edit and delete POIs as well as set warnings.
- Show POI On Map: This option allows you to show or hide each category of POI; for example, show restaurants and don't show ferry terminals.
- Manage Favorites: You can rename or delete favorites.
- Change Home Location: This feature allows you to change your saved Home address.
- Display Color Scheme: You can select from four different Day Color schemes and four different Night Color schemes.
- Brightness: To save you adjusting the brightness several times each day, there are two preference sliders, one each for the daytime and nighttime color schemes.
- Safety Preferences: You can select from the following safety preferences - Hide most menu options while driving, Suggest driving breaks, Show safety reminders, Warn when near places of worship or schools, Warn when driving faster than allowed, Warn when driving faster than a set speed, Warn not to leave the device in the car. You can also choose from 15 different warning sounds and for the unit to warn you what side of the road to drive on when you are traveling in other countries.
- Car Symbol: You can change the icon of the unit's car symbol on the map from 43 different icons.
- Status Bar: You can select what information is displayed on the unit's status bar - Remaining Time, Remaining Distance, Current Time, Arrival Time, Speed, and/or Direction. You can also choose whether the Status Bar is positioned vertically or horizontally on the screen.
- Automatic Zooming: You can enable or disable automatic zooming during the Driving View screen.
- Quick Menu Preference: You an select certain features to be displayed on the unit's Quick Menu screen for easier access to these functions.
- Guided Tours: You can select from six different Guided Tours that help you understand the TomTom GO920T better.
- Name Preference: This feature allows you to select whether or not the unit displays names for streets or highways.
- Set Units: You can change your preferred units of measurement at any time with the preference 'Set units'. You can adjust the distance units (miles or kilometers), choose the clock display format, and set the GPS position display to degrees, minutes, or seconds.
- Hand Operation: You can select what hand you will be using the GO 920T with - either Right or Left.
- Keyboard: The size and layout of the keyboard can be changed.
- Planning Preferences: This feature allows you to choose from the following Planning Preferences - Plan Fastest Routes, Plan Shortest Routes, Avoid Freeways, Plan Walking Routes, Plan Bicycle Routes, and/or Plan From Limited speed.
- Toll Charge Preferences: This option gives you a chance to specify what should happen in the event of your TomTom system considering a toll road in its calculations. Select 'Always avoid toll roads' to automatically exclude these from future routes, select 'Never avoid toll roads' to allow a best route to be calculated regardless of any toll charges. Otherwise, simply leave this preference at its default of 'Ask me when it happens'.
- Set Owner: You can setup a password that must be entered before using the GO 920T.
- Speaker Setup: You can select the unit's guided instructions to be heard from the GO 920T's internal speaker, a Bluetooth Hi-Fi device, using the Line-output or using the built-in FM transmitter.
- Start-Up Preferences: You can choose for the GO 920T to start-up operation from the following places - Continue where I left off, Ask for a destination, Show the Main Menu, Start TomTom Jukebox, or Start Slideshow. You can also change the unit's start up image from one of the six preloaded photos or one of your downloaded JPEG images.
- Change Language: You can change the language used to display all on-screen text, instructions and menu options with 'Change language'.
- Change Voice: The TomTom has a wide range of voices to choose from for commands. You can select from one of the male or female prerecorded voices in various languages or you can record your own voice for 50 of the units voice commands.
- Turn Off Sound/Turn On Sound: You can turn the navigation voice on or off.
- Volume: Adjusts the volume based on the amount of noise in the car.
- Show/Hide Tips: From time to time TomTom will offer helpful tips which you can choose to show, or hide.
- Set Clock: You can change the way the clock is displayed.
- Music Preferences: You can the unit to play your MP3 music files back in a random a random order or have them repeat. You can also set a slide show for your still pictures.
- Bluetooth Preferences: You can enable or disable Bluetooth operation.
- Disable Wireless Data: You can enable or disable wireless data.
- Send/Receive Files: This feature allows you to send data to another device or receive data from another device.
- Edit TomTom Plus Account: Edits information for you optional TomTom Plus account.
- Battery Saving Preferences: You can choose for the unit's screen to never turn off, always turn off or turn off between instructions.
- Reset Factory Settings: Resets all factory settings while deleting all your settings, locations and itineraries.
- Show Fewer Menu Options: Reduces the number of menu options shown.
Help Me! Menu: This feature gives you direct access to safety and road assistance information, such as the phone number and route description to the nearest police station or hospital. It also provides you with your current location.
TomTom Home: TomTom Home is a free supplied desktop software program for your computer that enables you to the following.
- Read the full version of the unit's User Manual

Note: The included TomTom Home software is compatible with Windows and Mac. No specific system requirements given.
TomTom PLUS: The optional TomTom Plus offers a collection of services to keep you informed and entertained. They can be downloaded to your computer, then transferred to your TomTom, or accessed by the GO 920T from your cell phone or PDA wirelessly, using its Bluetooth connectivity. New services are added regularly, some currently available are:
- continuously updated traffic information throughout Europe including Austria, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom (requires Bluetooth phone)
- location of radar cameras throughout Europe including Austria, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom
- map updates and additional maps of cities/countries not already included
- additional voices
- sending your current location to TomTom Buddies and receive theirs
- best selling audio books read by famous narrators
Map Share Technology: TomTom Map Share is technology unique to TomTom which enables you to add to, update and personalize your maps instantly. It also lets you share and benefit from fellow users' changes - daily, automatically, and easily via TomTom Home. TomTom has the world's largest satellite navigation community that can contribute and exchange all their changes amongst each other giving you the latest, most accurate and up-to-date mapping information. The G920T comes with a free one year offer for new map updates downloaded from TomTom or from other TomTom Map Share users.
Bluetooth: Many Bluetooth-capable cellular phones are compatible with the TomTom GO 920T and can use it as a hands-free car kit. The GO 920T features an optimized acoustic design, enhanced noise reduction, echo cancellation technology and a high performance speaker for clear communication. For a complete list of compatible phones see TomTom's web site. Available options will vary by phone, generally these apply:
- accept or reject incoming calls on the TomTom GO screen with a single tap of the screen
- dial your home number
- enter a number manually
- call a POI (Point Of Interest)
- dial a number in your phone book
- call a recently dialed number
- dial a recent caller
- auto answer
Music and Picture Playback: The TomTom GO 920T can play MP3 audio files and Audible Audiobooks and display documents and JPEG photos using its SD-card slot. These files are transferred from your computer to the GO 920T's inserted optional SD-card via USB connection using the supplied TomTom Home software CD-ROM. The unit supports up to 2GB SD-cards. The GO 920T's MP3 player features shuffle and repeat playback modes. The built-in MP3 player goes quiet during navigation instructions and hands-free phone calls.
Note: No SD-Card is included.
Built-In FM Transmitter: There is an FM Transmitter inside the GO 920T that allows you to play back the downloaded MP3 songs on the GPS unit through your vehicle's FM radio and speakers.
Photo And Document Viewer: You can load, store and preview photos from your PC or digital camera via USB. JPEG photos are stored on the unit's optional inserted SD-card. Stored JPEG photos can be played back in a slide show fashion. You can also view, search and zoom in on guides, reference works, dictionaries, etc that have been downloaded to an SD-card from your PC.
Optional iPod Cable: Using TomTom's optional iPod cable you can control your iPod via the GO 920T and hear your favorite songs and play lists through your vehicle's audio system using the unit's built-in FM transmitter.
Inputs and Outputs
GPS Unit:
- Docking Connector: There is a mini-type-B USB port on the bottom of the GO 920T that interfaces with the home dock and car charger.
- SD Card Slot: There is an SD Card slot found on the bottom of the GO 920T with a sticker over it stating "No SD required".
- TomTom Connector: This is an input for the supplied TMC receiver/antenna.
- Audio Out: A 3.5mm output jack is also located on the bottom of the unit for connecting to a separate speaker system.
- External Antenna: An SMB-connector is located on the back of the unit for connection of an external GPS antenna.
Home Dock:
- Dock Connector: There is a mini type-B USB connector is found on top of home dock that connects to the GO 920T.
- USB Cable: There is a 41" USB cable attached to the home dock that features a type-A USB connector that plugs into your PC.
