Overview: Designed for 2 wheels, the TomTom RIDER2 is rugged and weatherproof, and easy to mount on almost any motorcycle or scooter. Maps of the 50 United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico are stored in the supplied SD Memory Card. The RIDER2 has a built-in Lithium-Ion battery which is charged by the motorcycle's battery or by using the supplied AC adapter. The RIDER2 comes with a RAM Mounts handlebar mounting kit.
Waterproof:The RIDER2 is waterproof to handle any weather, it's rated to 1 meter depth for 30 minutes (IPX7).
Menu Views: The RIDER2 gives you different on-screen menu views depending upon whether or not you are moving.
Main Menu:When stationary, the main menu screen is divided into six segments with 5 selections and an arrow to take you to the next page. Menu options include:
- Navigate to
- Find alterative
- Mobile phone
- Change preferences
- Advanced planning
- Browse map
- TomTom Plus services
- Add Favorite
- Itinerary planning
Driving Menu:When moving, the menu screen is divided into four segments with larger icons which are easier to see and press with a gloved hand. For safety reasons, certain menu options become unavailable while you are driving, leaving you four options:
- Navigate to
- Turn Off/On sound
- Clear Route
- Add Favorite
Navigation: The 'Navigate to...' menu is the simplest and most useful starting point in most situations. Given your current GPS position, you can use this to navigate to any given address, crossing, favorite location, Point Of Interest, and so on. You can choose from the following options:
- Home: once your home location is stored in memory, it can be quickly be chosen as a destination
- Favorite: the locations you visit frequently can be stored in the Favorite menu, a Favorite can be chosen as a destination without having to enter its address each time
- Address: enter a specific address
- Recent Destination: display a list of addresses, Points Of Interest, and other destinations you've used recently
- Point Of Interest: choose from a huge database of railway stations, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and so on; search for a POI near your current location, in a specific city, near your home, along your route, or near your destination
- GPS Position: easily store your current location as a Favorite
- Point On Map: browse the map and select a destination, you can scroll around the map, zooming in or out as needed
- Longitude Latitude: enter your destination coordinates
- TomTom Buddy: navigate to the current location of a TomTom Buddy
Find Alternative: Once a route has been planned, you can change it using the 'Find alternative...' menu. You can choose from the following options:
- Calculate Alternative: find an alternative route if you don't like the original
- Avoid Roadblock: if you spot signs of trouble (such as backed-up traffic or 'Delays ahead' warning signs), you can choose to avoid the next 100 yards, 1/4 mile, 1 mile, or 3 miles of the current route
- Travel via...: choose 'Travel via...' if you want to make sure the planned route goes past one particular location, perhaps to pick up or drop someone off; pick the via point using the same options as choosing a destination
- Avoid Part of Route: avoid intersections or roads known for heavy traffic, choose the road to avoid among the roads along the route
- Recalculate Original: return to the original best route
Preferences: You can change much of the look and feel of your TomTom system to your own liking by using 'Preferences'. Some seldom options can be hidden so you don't have to scroll through them. Adjust the following:
- Display Colors: Day Colors are bright, with a lot of contrast, so you can see the map clearly; Night Colors are darker and subdued so they don't interfere with your night vision
- Turn Off/On 3D Display: the main 3D navigation view, showing maps, routes and Points Of Interest from the perspective of the vehicle driver, can be switched to a more conventional 2D view
- Turn Off/On Map Display:the main map view can be replaced by detail on the next driving instruction (turn); choose to show the next turn above a specified speed, always, or never
- Enable/Disable POIs: select which POI categories display icons on the map
- Turn Off/On Sound:turn the navigation voice on or off
- Volume Preference: set the volume of the headset between 10% and 100% in increments of 5%
- Manage Favorites: rename favorites, delete any unwanted locations, search favorites by typing the name; up to 48 favorite locations can be saved
- Change Home Location: set or change your Home location, you will then be able to use Home as a departure or destination point
- Manage Maps: change maps if you have maps of another country or area installed
- Manage POI: organize your existing Points of Interest (POIs), create new POI categories, can set the RIDER2 to warn you when you are within a preset distance from a POI
- Status Bar Preferences: choose what information to display at the bottom of the navigation view screen; remaining time, remaining distance, arrival time, current time, street name, or speed
- Set Clock: specify the clock format, manually set the clock, orautomatically set the clock from the GPS satellites (when accessible)
- Connect To Headset: establish the wireless connection to your Bluetooth headset in order to receive spoken route instructions
- Change Map Colors: choose between several color schemes that are available for the maps used in the TomTom system
- Change Brightness: choose the brightness of the day and night screens independently, between 0% and 100%
- Planning Preferences: choose how routes are calculated, select Ask each time, fastest, shortest, avoiding highways, walking routes, bicycle, or limited speed
- Toll Road Preferences: specify Always avoid toll roads, Never avoid toll roads, or Ask me when it happens
- Compass Preferences: show no compass, arrow pointing north, arrow showing heading, or arrow pointing to destination
- Change Voice: select from 13 voices (either pre-loaded or on the included disc) in English, Spanish, French, Italian, or German
- Switch Language: change the language used to display all on-screen text, instructions, and menu options
- Set Units: choose distance units (miles or kilometers), the clock display format, and GPS coordinate display
- Operate Left/Right Handed: depending upon your preference, where possible controls can be placed on the left or right side of the display, preventing your left hand from obscuring the screen when the display is set to right hand (or vice versa)
- Keyboard Preferences: select a large or small keyboard, and the type of keyboard layout: alphabetic (ABCD), typewriter (QWERTY), or French (AZERTY)
- Name Preferences: adjust the way road names are displayed on maps by checking/unchecking three boxes:
- Show House Numbers: house numbers are displayed in front of their street names: example--1 Crutchfield Park
- Show Street Names on Map: select to show the names of roads and side streets on the map while you are driving, provided the current map scale is appropriate
- Show Next Highway: select to show the next highway sign
- Show/Hide Tips: choose whether or not to view the occasional tips that appear on the screen
- Set Owner: enter your name and address, delete or change password created on TomTom Home
- Instruction Preferences: replace spoken instruction with a beep if you prefer; always, never, or above a certain speed
- Start-up Preferences:choose what's displayed when the unit is turned on; continue, ask for destination, show main menu
- Enable/Disable Wireless Data:turn on/off data receiver
- Bluetooth Preferences: disable the Bluetooth wireless connection if you plan to take your TomTom into a hospital, plane, or any other situation where radio communications are prohibited, disabling Bluetooth also helps prolong battery life
- Show Fewer/All Options: hide menu options not often used or show all options
- Ask/Don't Ask Arrival Time: should your TomTom ask you for a specific arrival time each time you plan a route
- Reset Factory Settings: delete all the settings, locations, and itineraries that you have set and reset the unit to the factory settings
Advanced Planning: The Advanced Planning allows you to plan a route, departure point and destination, without accessing GPS satellites. Using this menu, you can look at the best route and journey time between any two given locations, or perhaps get directions that will help someone else get to your current position. You can select the departure location in the usual way. You'll then be asked to pick a destination, again with the usual choices. Finally, you will need to choose the route type from the following options: Fastest route, Shortest route (for motor vehicles), Avoid highways, Walking route (i.e. the shortest route, ignoring all traffic rules and excluding highways), Bicycle route (i.e. the shortest route obeying traffic rules but still excluding highways), or Limited speed (the quickest route for a vehicle of limited top speed, i.e. many road types are equally preferred, apart from highways).
Browse Map: You can browse the entire map, dragging it across the screen and adjusting the scale.
TomTom PLUS: This optional service offers continuously updated weather reports, plus map updates, extra points of interest, and personalization features. These options can be accessed by the RIDER2 from your cell phone or PDA wirelessly, using its Bluetooth connectivity. Note: To use TomTom Plus, you need a GPRS-ready mobile phone with Bluetooth. If you already read e-mail or browse the Internet with your mobile phone, then it is probably GPRS-ready.
TomTom Weather: TomTom Weather, a feature of TomTom Plus, can give you an impression of the current weather at any location, selected using the usual destination options. Using your configured wireless GPRS Internet connection TomTom looks up weather information from thousands of weather stations around the world (located at most airports). The weather information includes: cloud cover, precipitation type and intensity, temperature, wind direction and speed, lightning, humidity, and visibility.
Favorite Locations: The Favorite menu allows you to store up to 48 locations that you visit frequently into memory. You can choose a favorite location the same way you choose a destination.
Itinerary Planning: An itinerary is essentially just a list of waypoints and destinations. Your best route is calculated, visiting each in turn (in the exact order you specify). You can save an itinerary for later use if desired.
View Route: If you already have a route planned, you can explore it in various ways, choose from the following options:
- Browse as Text: provides a simple list of the junctions involved and the distances or times between them
- Browse as Images: presents each junction, with your turn instruction clearly marked
- Browse Map of Route: overlays the route onto a map that you can zoom and scroll around
- Show Route Demo: shows an animation of your route, you can view your journey at up to 500% of real time
- Show Route Summary: displays the graphical overview of your route that was shown when it was first calculated
Bluetooth Headset: The TomTom RIDER2 is equipped with a Bluetooth headset which provides wireless turn-by-turn driving instructions and two-way phone conversations. The headset attaches to the helmet and has a microphone on a boom and a speaker that mounts inside the helmet using the included Velcro. Leading Bluetooth enabled helmets are also supported.
Hands-free Calling: If you have a Bluetooth-capable mobile phone then you can use your RIDER2 as a hands-free mobile phone kit. You will be able to do the following:
- Answer:accept incoming calls on the RIDER2 screen with a single tap of the screen
- Auto Answer:program the TomTom to answer all calls after a specified time
- Phonebook:download your phonebook into the TomTom for easy dialing when you're not moving
Note: For safety reasons, the RIDER2 blocks outgoing calls while the bike is moving. Incoming calls, if you choose to accept them, are automatically routed to your helmet. When the bike isn't moving, you can make and receive calls normally.
Call Menu: When you want to make a call, you can select from the following menu:
- Home: select to call whichever number you have set as your home number
- Number: select to make a call by entering the number on the touch screen
- Point of Interest: many POIs include the phone number, allowing you to call ahead to a restaurant or hotel you're interested in
- Phonebook Entry: select to dial a number already entered in the TomTom phonebook
- Recently Dialed: select to redial the number you recently caller
- Recent Caller: select to redial the number of a recent caller
Computer Compatible: To get the most from your TomTom system, you can link it to your computer, from where you can back up (and restore) your Favorite locations and preferences, load new maps and install new navigation voices. No system requirements are provided.
Rechargeable Battery: Fully charging the internal Lithium Ion battery will take approximately 2 hours. A fully charged battery offers approximately 5 hours of operation.
Car:You can use the RIDER2 in your car with the optional car mount kit, available from TomTom directly.

Back Panel:
- Docking Connector: 4 contacts for use with supplied Navigation Unit holder. The bottom of the cradle has a two-pin jack which will accept the supplied battery cable.
Bottom:
- Memory Card Slot: slot for the SD Memory card containing the maps
- USB Connector: female Mini USB Ver.2.0 connector for use with supplied USB cable to connect the RIDER2 with your computer
- Charging Connector: round DC power connection for use with supplied AC adapter to charge the battery
- Reset Button: button recessed in a hole; a straightened paper clip can be used to press the button to reset the unit
